CONGRATULATIONS TO FR. DANNY McAVOY

DECREE OF INCARDINATION from Bishop Crispian: Following his request to the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, and in accordance with Canon 267 of the Code of Canon Law, Fr. Danny is now incardinated into the Diocese of Portsmouth with immediate effect.  Given on 16th January 2012 at Bishop’s House.

[WOMEN’S] WORLD DAY OF PRAYER

Why the brackets, you may wonder?  This is a big attempt to get rid of the thought that this call to prayer is by women and exclusively for women, which it is not and really never has been.  It is true the services have over the years been designed by women but the prayers are for the whole world, not just the 50% or so who have been born female.  This year’s theme, for example is called Let Justice Prevail.  This is on the assumption that everybody wants Justice to Prevail – not just the women.  In future the call to prayer on the first Friday in March will be just that:  World Day of Prayer.  The organizers would like to see as many people as possible, all ages, male and female, at the service in St. Francis of Assisi on Friday, 2nd March at 2.30.

WDP supports many charities worldwide and part of the way of doing this in Milford is a Fundraising Lunch organised by all the churches in Milford and Everton.  This year, due it has to be confessed, to the speed with  which January has passed by, we have failed to publicise the lunch enough.  We are doing out best on this Sunday.  Tickets will be available at the door and in the Maryland Room after Mass on Sunday.  A donation of Ł4 is suggested, and the lunch will be soup and French bread followed by apple crumble and custard.  It will take place in All Saints’ Church Hall on Wednesday, 8th February 12.15 pm for 12.30, and it will be followed by a PowerPoint presentation on the beautiful country of Malaysia.

Please do your best to support us, especially as this year the responsibility for the event is in our hands in our church.  Help with producing one of the delicious teas for which we have gained renown will be much appreciated on the day itself, 2nd March.

PARISH RETREAT WITH THE CARMELITES

If you put your name down to go, please ensure you make your payment of Ł25 as soon as possible as this is now due.  If anyone has difficulty in paying, please contact Fr Danny.  Cheques should be made payable to PRCDTR Our Lady of Mercy and St. Joseph, Lymington, placed in an envelope labelled on the reverse 'Parish Retreat', and sent to the Parish Office.

CARING FOR OTHERS IN OUR COMMUNITY

New Forest Pastoral Area Council is seeking to develop a Bereavement Support Group with  representatives who, although part of a team, would work principally within their own parish.  At the moment Di Mussert is involved from St. Francis of Assisi Parish but additional volunteers would be most welcome.  If you feel you can respond and join the group in this valuable service to each other, please CONTACT Di on 01590 643994 or call Fr. Danny on 01590 676696.

NEWCOMERS’ SUPPER – 25th FEBRUARY 2012

The famous Milford Newcomers’ Supper takes place at All Saints’ Church Hall on Friday 25th February.  Anyone who has moved into the village of Milford or Everton is invited to attend – there will be someone in each Church to contact for details.  This is organised jointly by the Churches in Milford and we at St. Francis are responsible for the puddings.  Gretchen does the coordinating (telephone 644983) and we generally think ourselves lucky to have something so exciting to do – we could have been allotted the lettuce!  New and old volunteers contact Gretchen so she knows how numbers making will fit together with those eating,

One of the reasons why Milford ‘gels’ so well together springs from the Newcomers’ Supper – an excellent reason to support it.  It is financed by the donations received on the Pop-In Coffee Mornings on Thursdays in the village hall which doubles as the Library on other days, situated in Park Road opposite the now defunct HSBC.  Incidentally, the Pop-In group are always happy to see new volunteers – it’s a wonderful way to get to know new people in the village.

NEWS OF OLD FRIENDS

Father Vervenne will be celebrating his three-score years and ten this coming Thursday, 9th February, so cheers to him and many happy returns.  Father Dunne, whose two-fat-ladies birthday is on February 24th, is not at all well at the moment.  We have been asked to remember him in our prayers.
